I wasn't confident that Rupert Wyatt would be recognised by name, just yet, but it's only a matter of time. He's certainly known for his work: Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a surpringly, but also deservedly, big hit last year, in terms of both hearts and dollars.
Wyatt has got a sequel to that film coming along sooner or later, presumably after Andy Serkis is done second unit direction on The Hobbit, and he's also lined up the spy thriller Londongrad at Warners. And now, freshly added to his fridge-door whiteboard is Agent 13, an as-yet mysterious project that he's been developing with, and as a vehicle for, Charlize Theron.
Variety can tell us that TS Nowlin is writing the film, and that it's another spy film, but this time also sci-fi, unlike the torn-from-the-headlines Londongrad.
And beyond that? Mystery. I'd bet it will be rather unlike Aeon Flux because, well, 'once bitten, twice shy.'
Agent 13 doesn't have a studio backing it yet, but it's being shopped around, and there's an awful lot of interest. Apparently Sony, Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox are all wanting to talk.
And to temper my envy, here's where I have to mention that Wyatt used to direct Hollyoaks. Holly blummin' oaks.
Sigh, I feel better now.
