Overtaking the in-progress Luna to become Dave McKean's second feature, The Gospel of Us is a very different animal to Mirrormask, and yet somehow, also very similar. Both bear the clear visual indicators of McKean's involvement and, deeper than that, both inquire into the nature and truth of story.
The film is comprised, almost entirely, of footage filmed last year during a live, in-the-streets, embedded theatre event staged in Port Talbot, Wales, that retold the Easter story. Michael Sheen played The Teacher, the Christ figure.
I spoke to McKean about the film at length this week, and I'll be sharing what he told me with you very soon. To get us going, however, three rather diverse clips from the film.
Having premiered in Port Talbot on Easter Sunday, the film starts a tour of the UK today. McKean will be attending as many of the screenings as he can.
