I might be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, or at least the earlier episodes that I've seen, but I certainly don't self identify as a Brony.
That's Brony. As in:
A name typically given to the male viewers/fans (whether they are straight, gay, bisexual, etc.) of the My Little Pony show or franchise. They typically do not give in to the hype that males aren't allowed to enjoy things that may be intended for females.
According to the Urban Dictionary. Surely somebody could have put it better than that?
Anyhow, the new My Little Pony is, actually, very well animated, often funny and really quite smart at times. Series creator Lauren Faust stepped down after the first season, and I've yet to see, definitively, an episode from after her run, but Faust definitely got things off to a great start.
About a month ago, a Kickstarter appeal was launched to fund BronyCon: The Documentary, a celebration of the celebrators of the show. They were looking for $60,000 and they've ended up pulling in $322,022, plus another $26,142 in PayPal donations aside from the main fund.
That's a significant sum and there's no excuse for fudging this or screwing it up at all. No pressure, Bronies.
Casting for the documentary is underway. The filmmakers are looking for:
Military Bronies who are living in Arizona specifically.
A parent and son in his 20's who are both fans and have bonded over MLP.
An adult Brony who has Aspergers, Autism or other syndrome or disorder and has been helped by the show.
Bronies living in the Southern California area with interesting lives and stories to tell.
They'll have no trouble with any of those, I'm sure. And if they want me to put up the story of a Brit who resists the Brony tag, I'd be all for it.
The most funded project in Kickstarter history, if you're curious, is the Pebble E-Paper watch, with $10,266,845 of funding. Crikey.
