There's something chewing at me, niggling away. I've got a half formed memory and I can't quite pull all of the pieces together. Ironically enough, it's a memory to do with Blade Runner.
Ridley Scott has been doing press for Prometheus and a lot of the chat has turned to his other projects. Collider, for example, got him chatting about the Blade Runner sequel. Indeed, it's more than a chat, as Scott launched into a full-on description of a scene he has in mind for the film.
There'll be a vast farmland where there are no hedges or anything in sight, and it's flat like the plains of' Kansas, where you can see for miles. And it's dirt, but it's being raked. On the horizon is a combine harvester which is futuristic with klieg lights, 'cause it's dawn. The harvester is as big as six houses.
In the foreground is a small white clapboard hut with a porch as if it was from Grapes of Wrath. From the right comes a car, coming in about six feet off the ground being chased by a dog. And that's the end of it, I'm not gonna tell you anything else.
Now, I can't place it, but I've heard this scene described before. The giant harvester, the clapboard house, the dog. I've sat and paged through my copy of Future Noir looking for a reference, but can't find one. it's not easy to track down on the Blade Runner Blu-ray either, but this picture has certainly been painted for me before.
If you know where, please, please remind me.
It sounds to me like Scott is going back to some of his old, unused Blade Runner ideas for this sequel. I think that's a good thing?
Prometheus is in UK cinemas now and US cinemas from Friday.
